About

What if you could add your fingerprint to the school or the space around it? In this project, you are going to work on a renovation to make some small — but important — changes in order to create a more welcoming place to be. Let’s get started!

First, you need to look around and see what really needs change, in your opinion, and if everybody would benefit from your idea of renovation.

Design

The place was chosen, now it is time to start designing things, which means to plan your project. In this step, you will form groups and each group will be responsible for executing a design stage.

Renovation

After a lot of discussion and consideration, you are probably ready to really start working. In this step, you are going to evaluate if everything is prepared and then finally renovate the space.

Big opening

Big opening

After working so hard, you should show your contributions to the people, don’t you think? In the final step you will get to know a few ideas on how this could be done.

GO TO STEP 4

STEP 1:

Needs assessment

Can you remember places at your school or in its neighborhood that could be cleaner, more beautiful or more organized? This is the first task of the project: look for places that could look better. However, it is not only your opinion and your classmates’ that count in a renovation project — after all, it may impact many people. So, before hands-on practice, there are many things to consider: community needs, resources, time, authorizations, etc. Click on the infographic to learn more and let’s begin!

TASKS:

Observe potential places to renovate and ask for people’s opinions, then pick just one and write a project to justify the renovation.

SKILLS:

You will work on critical thinking and social awareness skills.

!Critical thinking is a skill that allows you to analyze things properly and make good decisions. Developing social awareness will help you practice empathy and amplify your world view.

GO TO STEP 2

Your project was approved! Now you must design it. “Design” means to think about many aspects of a project or, in other words, to conceive and plan it out. In this step you will form groups according to personal abilities and preferences, and each group will be responsible for executing a design stage. In the infographic you will check some basic tasks (you can add more) and tips to find out your strengths, so that you can choose a group. Click on it!

TASKS:

Form groups and execute the tasks related to the design of the project.

SKILLS:

You will develop self-knowledge and teamwork skills.

!Self-knowledge is fundamental. It demands effort, but if you don’t know yourself, how can you make the best choices for you personally and professionally? When you work in a team, you learn to share responsibilities, successes and failures, instead of keeping an individualistic attitude.

TASKS:

Define the final aspects about the project and renovate the space.

GO TO STEP 4

It is now time to show the school community the outcome of so much hard work! Because this part of the project involves so many people, you need to be really organized. In this step, you will form groups again according to personal skills and preferences. A piece of advice: evaluate your role in your group in step 2, then reflect — do you feel like doing a similar activity or would you rather choose a different area? Click on the game to learn more about the teams and have fun!

TASKS:

Form groups and organize an event to show the renovation you worked on.

SKILLS:

You will develop organization, creativity, communication and teamwork skills.

!By this time, you have probably noticed that many activities required the help of different people, right? But that doesn’t happen only in school projects. During your life, you will face many personal, academic and professional challenges that you won’t be able to solve by yourself. So keep working on teamwork skills in order to achieve collaborative relationships and better results.
